Husqvarna and Husaberg reunite. Where to though?
"The year 2013 will be remembered in motorcycling history as the year that Husqvarna was reborn.
HUSQVARNA STARTS A NEW ERA OF GREAT SUCCESS
Following the acquisition of Husqvarna by Pierer Industries AG and after careful analysis and evaluation of all aspects, it was decided to reunite what came out of shared roots 25 years ago. In other words, Husqvana will enter a positive new era by combining its own rich heritage with HusabergĘs state-of-the-art technology.
NEW HUSQVARNA MODEL LINEUP TO BE PRESENTED IN OCTOBER
The new generation of Husqvarna models is already in progress: a new model range, with brand new exclusive design and the latest technology is being developed and will be offered in the segments Enduro, Motocross and Sportminicycles. There will also be exciting, newly developed products in the Supermoto segment – one in which Husqvarna has enjoyed a lot of success in recent years".
The Husqvarna Sportmotorcycle Gmbh as it will be called, will be based in Mattighofen - Austria which is the same with Ktm and Husaberg. Thus Stefan Pierer is reuniting the Swedish companies.
Husaberg was founded by a group of engineers when Husqvarna was acquired by Cagiva in 1988 and since then the two companies have followed separate routes. In 2007 Husqvarna was acquired by Bmw. At the beginning of 2013 Husqvarna was acquired by Stefan PiererĘs company, the Pierer Industries AG, which closed the plant in Varese Italy and layed off 211 employees.
Comment: The speed that Stefan Pierer is moving, is astonishing. However its difficult to see how the oncoming Husqvarna Sportmotorcycle bikes will not be internal competitors to the Ktm motorcycles. From the other hand, the rumors for a new Husqvarna bike which will be manufactured in India, may downgrade two historical European marquees, to made in India, KtmĘs complementary products.
